Issue
When you use SynchronEyes software’s Show Media feature to view Windows Media Format (.wmv) files, you see only a black screen.
Cause
The Show Media feature in SynchronEyes software 7.0 uses DirectX application programming interface to play media files. By default, the Windows 98 operating system includes DirectX 6.1 and the Windows Me and 2000 operating systems include DirectX 7.0. Using these older versions of DirectX to play .wmv files can cause problems.
Also, your operating system requires a specific codec (a program that compresses and decompresses digital data to a particular file format) to play .wmv files. By default, the Windows 98, Me and 2000 operating systems don’t include the codec for .wmv files.
Solution
-
If you haven’t done so already, upgrade Windows Media Player to version 9.0 or later from
www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx.
-
Open a .wmv file with Windows Media Player. If your computer doesn’t include the necessary codecs, this prompts your operating system to automatically download the necessary files.
-
Upgrade DirectX to version 9.0 or later from www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx.
